In the latest episode of the podcast Adult Site Broker Talk, Jessica Van Meir is the guest. The co-founder of the adult content platform and payment solution MintStars discusses the development of her company, fair conditions for creators, and her political advocacy for the rights of sex workers.
Who Is Jessica Van Meir?
Jessica Van Meir is the co-founder of MintStars, a fansite and payment platform for adult content that aims to give creators greater control over their content and earnings. At the same time, she is pursuing a PhD in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. Her research focuses on the rights of sex workers in Latin America.
She previously helped establish the Boston Sex Workers and Allies Collective, which is working to achieve full decriminalization of sex work in Massachusetts. Professionally, she also worked for a feminist law firm, where she represented victims in cases involving sexual harassment, sex trafficking, and image-based sexual abuse. Van Meir and her co-founder Daniel Sargent met in 2020 and founded MintStars out of shared frustration with how existing platforms treat creators.
MintStars: A Platform Focused on Creator Control
MintStars operates as both an adult content platform and a payments service. Creators can offer subscriptions, sell through a content marketplace, receive tips, and communicate via chat — without paying any creator fees. The platform offers immediate payouts, chargeback protections, and relatively limited censorship. Payments run through a crypto-based system designed to bypass financial discrimination and traditional payment restrictions on adult content.
A new ownership program has expanded the model: The platform is now 20% co-owned by its content creators. They can earn a share of company profits based on their contributions (such as revenue, referrals, and activity). Van Meir donated her own shares for this purpose and stepped down as director to focus more on research and activism. Additional shares went to the organization SWOP Behind Bars.
MintStars has also led to the development of MintCash, a separate payments company spun off by Van Meir’s co-founder. MintCash combines pay-ins, treasury, and payouts for businesses that may be underserved or charged higher fees by conventional payment providers.
