“Yes, no, maybe” – this expression perhaps best describes how operating company OpenAI continues to approach censorship of erotic content in its AI tool ChatGPT. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had actually announced an “adult mode” for December 2025 (CASZIN reported). This was supposed to be less prudish about erotic content than before, but has now been officially postponed to the first quarter of 2026.
On December 18, 2025, OpenAI announced that ChatGT now uses “age prediction” in its new version 5.2. This feature aims to estimate the user’s age based on their chat behavior, wording, and queries. If there is a misjudgment, an adult who has been mistakenly assessed as a teenager can “prove” their age by means of an ID card photo. Elsewhere, there is also talk of a copy of a driver’s license or other documents that are sufficient to prove age. This check is not carried out by ChatGPT itself, but by an external service provider. If a user is considered a minor, “romantic role-playing games,” for example, are not offered.
Mind you, this does not yet enable the “adult mode” that is now scheduled to arrive in 2026. However, if the age verification method described above is retained, it will be a far cry from the guidelines set by the German KJM, the state media watchdog. Thus, it is unlikely that GPT will generate content in 2026 that is truly suitable for use on adult portals, such as creating sales-promoting video descriptions that do not mince words. Competitor Grok has long been much further ahead in this regard, as described in the following article:
