The strict censorship on certain topics in ChatGPT has been a point of criticism for a long time. Especially when it comes to erotic content, the AI refuses to cooperate extremely quickly. Generating helpful content for OnlyFans or adult platforms has been almost impossible. Now, however, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has unexpectedly announced that the company will significantly loosen these restrictions. Starting as early as **December 2025**, a new version of ChatGPT will include a mode that explicitly allows the generation of erotic content. Altman stated: “In December, once we roll out fuller age gating and under our principle of ‘treating adult users like adults,’ we’ll allow even more — for example, erotica for verified adults.” This apparently includes the integration of an **Age Verification System (AVS)**. Exactly how this will work in practice remains completely unclear for now. The same applies to the precise degree of openness users can expect afterward.

Meanwhile, Sam Altman has already slightly backpedaled on X: “Okay, that tweet about upcoming ChatGPT changes has caused way more excitement around erotica than I expected! It was only meant as an example that we want to give adults more freedom. Here’s an attempt to communicate this better: As we’ve said before, we’ve decided to prioritize the safety of teenagers over privacy and freedom. And we are **not** relaxing any policies when it comes to mental health. This is new and powerful technology, and we believe minors need significant protection.”

That sounds much more like marketing speak, which reveals little of substance. Nevertheless, some media outlets responded to the announcement with near euphoria. WDR wrote: “Sam Altman’s announcement marks a turning point – not only for OpenAI, but for the entire AI industry. What was long considered taboo is now likely to become the norm.” This assessment is likely to miss the mark in several respects. On the one hand, Altman’s highly interpretable statements leave little hope for a truly significant change. On the other hand, eroticism and sex are normal. They have been since time immemorial, on the internet for decades, and now also in the field of AI. Competitor Grok is already miles ahead of ChatGPT in this regard (CASZIN reported). In addition, there are various uncensored online offerings as well as locally installable open source solutions that are completely open anyway.
